YUKIKO HATA  ハタユキコ

Born in 1988 in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan
Lives and works in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan

Yukiko Hata’s works capture contemporary society with vivid colors and dark messages. Having felt a strong sense of discomfort with “society” since her early childhood, Hata learned to build acceptance by expressing her thoughts through painting and depicting the world as seen through her own eyes. While portraying real-world problems, she has taken to using venomously bright colors, likened to recalling “the brilliance and beauty of the world before the explosion of the atomic bomb.” The end result recalls the feeling of omnipotence and dreams of piercing hue she experienced as a child, while also pairing them with a unique sense of humor.
