RUIJI AIBA
Bobblehead Hakutaku, 2020
Ceramic
2.4 x 2.8 x 4.7 inches (6 x 7 x 12cm)
FROM THE ARTIST:
I have made many sculptures of Hakutaku. This sacred beast from China was a popular icon in 18th and 19th century Japan where it was believed to save people from disease. I never thought it would ever come to be useful in our times. I created it in a bobblehead version. It resembles traditional locally made toys in Japan, upon which people make their wishes.
Amabie Sake Cup, 2020
Ceramic
2.7 x 2.8 x 2.8 inches (6.8 x 7 x 7 cm)
FROM THE ARTIST:
In this piece I turned Amabie into a sake cup. It comes in a box.
